Welcome to Squiddled Thoughts!
I am a PhD researcher in the fields of marine science and behavioural ecology. I completed my undergraduate in marine science in 2009. Since then I have sought employment in the marine environment including work as a research assistant for a marine laboratory and fisheries roles in the Pacific islands and with the Australian government.
On my days off I like to scuba dive or spearfish or just relax with my beautiful partner and massacre a song or two on my guitar.
I started Squiddled Thoughts to use as a space to just squiddle some thoughts (No! Really!?) and see where it takes me. My theory being that the more thoughts I get out of my head and onto …… errrr…. e-paper?…. the more space I’ll have for the sciency stuff.
You may wonder why a blog filled with random thoughts, fishies and diving themes would be named after a squidgy semi-transparent cephalopod. Well, mostly because I like squid. They are fantastic to watch underwater, with their pulsating pigment displays and fearless tentacular (yep, I just made that word up…) threats. I also think they are delicious and Squid fisheries are among the most sustainable fisheries in the world.
Anyway, enough about squid. If you’d like to find out more about them, feel free to leave me a comment. I’d like to hear from anyone regarding my posts or anything to do with the marine environment or spelling mistakes in my posts or anything really.
Ink ya later!
